This coastal gem is loved by Sunshine Coast locals for its kilometres of golden sandy beaches, epic sunrise spots, and fabulous family fun.
With 48 hours on the clock, we've put together the ultimate guide to make your Kawana mini break the best one yet.
Day 1
Morning
Trust us on this one – you'll want to set an early morning alarm to make the most of Kawana’s sunrise magic. We suggest heading to the northern tip of Buddina Beach to watch the golden dawn light spill across the Pacific Ocean or making the journey up to the Point Cartwright Lighthouse for a more elevated view.

Point Cartwright, Kawana
Grab a fresh bagel and coffee from local hotspot TwinFins Espresso Bar. The choice is yours whether you dine-in or take your breakfast over to La Balsa Park for views of the Mooloolah River.
Keep the kids happy by heading to The Big Boing in Birtinya for a session of trampoline action. With large free-jumping and slam-dunking areas, plus a dodgeball court, giant airbag and foam pit on offer, this is what family fun’s all about!
Afternoon
Make the most of the cool afternoon breezes and explore the leafy pathway that winds its way around Currimundi Lake. Park the car at Westaway Parade and start your journey soaking up the views of the river mouth, before stepping out on foot or bike along the shady path. Keep an eye out for Osprey who call this spot home, and finish back where your started after you 'Loop the Lake' on this circular track.
Evening
It’s only fitting to end a long day of adventures on a high note with a sumptuous dinner. You’ll find Bocca in Bokarina ready to serve up a delightful Italian feast... so be sure to come along hungry! Choose from their extensive menu of pasta, pizza, cannoli and more.

Rest your head for the night at the Mercure Sunshine Coast Kawana Waters.
Day 2
Morning
Start your day with a refreshing swim in the patrolled area at Kawana Beach, before laying down the beach-towel and soaking up our famous sunshine. With a good book in hand and the gentle hum of the sea serving as your backdrop, you’ll settle into coastal bliss very quickly.

Afternoon
When the lunchtime thirst kicks in, drop by Your Mates Brewing for some good food and cold brews. After all, nothing says ‘holiday’ quite like a chilled glass of their award-winning Larry Pale Ale, and a plate of Queensland’s ocean-farmed barramundi and chips!

Spend the rest of your afternoon at a slower pace – we recommend taking the rollerblades and bikes for a spin around the spectacular Lake Kawana.
Evening
To round out your two-day mini-break in Kawana, enjoy a Mediterranean-inspired dinner at Vrina Mezze Bar. Soak up the views over Kawana Island as you tuck in to plates of crispy Saganaki, octopus and souvlaki. Afterwards, head to Event Cinemas at Kawana Shoppingworld for a late-night movie.
