Experience a taste of the tropics in our backyard.

Imagine towering palm trees, lush undergrowth, and water that looks like it’s been touched up with an Instagram filter. This special kind of magic is made at Booloumba Creek, nestled amongst the splendour of Conondale National Park in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.

When it comes to spectacular swimming spots on the Sunshine Coast, Booloumba Creek might take the cake. You’ve probably spotted this turquoise beauty driving up the likes on your social media feed... and now it’s your turn to check it out!

If you’re planning a day trip out to Conondale National Park, make sure you’ve got a four-wheel drive to make it through the creek crossings along the way. The creek itself lies about a 10–minute drive from the country township of Kenilworth, where you can fill your picnic basket with fresh doughnuts from the bakery and local cheese beforehand. Aim to arrive at Booloumba early so you’ll have this sparkling oasis all to yourself.

When waterfalls call your name, stretch your legs and head out on the Booloumba Falls Walk: a 3km return trail that’ll have you marvelling at spectacular gushing cascades and gorgeous rock pools. Ensure you set aside a good two hours for this hike.

Camping at Booloumba Creek

Want first dibs on the best swimming spots? Camping is the way to go. Scenic campgrounds are available nearby to pitch your tent and feature basic amenities to keep things comfortable. Better yet, if you bring your own clean-cut wood, you can indulge in roasted marshmallows and soak up the starlight in front of a crackling fire. Other nearby highlights to consider while you’re in the area include the multi-day Conondale Range Great Walk, and the Strangler Cairn: a living artwork immersed in the beautiful subtropical rainforest surroundings.

Local tip: make sure you check out the weather forecast before hopping in the car. The creek does dry up at certain times of the year, and the vibrant colour of the water will diminish after periods of heavy rain.
