While you’ll need a gold coin donation to enter the Discovery Centre at the Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve, it’s well worth the investment. Set amongst majestic Hinterland forest surrounds, the Discovery Centre is a treasure trove of interactive learning. Here, you’ll find plenty to love in this spacious, modern facility – whether it’s taking in the breathtaking views of the Glass House Mountains from the viewing deck, enjoying the thematic displays, or chatting with a local volunteer.
Best of all, you’re close to the stunning walking trails which weave through the tranquil grounds of the Reserve. As you amble along, be sure to keep an eye out for the diverse range of native flora and fauna which populate this gorgeous part of the Sunshine Coast (such as grey goshawks, red-legged pademelons, and more.
Take a photo at the Big Pineapple
The Big Pineapple is the site of royal visits (Diana, Princess of Wales, enjoyed a trip here), epic music festivals (watch this space for the return of the Big Pineapple Music Festival in 2024), agricultural legends and iconic social media snapshots. This haven of cooling sea water is a great option to explore – particularly if you’ve got kids who might be a bit daunted by the majestic beach beyond. Conveniently located on the northern tip of Kings Beach, the ocean pool is usually open for public use year-round (but be sure to check out our local council page for any updates on operating hours). This is a great one to enjoy during the warm summer months and includes plenty of poolside umbrellas and chairs.

Even if you’re on a limited budget, a stroll through the Eumundi Markets is a colourful feast for the senses... that doesn’t cost a cent (unless you see something that takes your fancy!) Inhale the mouthwatering aromas of okonomiyaki sizzling on barbecue grills, browse through artworks, and get the good vibes rolling with the vibrant tunes of local musicians. You'll also be in the prime spot to enjoy free samples of flavoursome local products, such as honey, fudge, black garlic, and more.
After all, when you’re visiting one of the largest artisan markets in the Southern Hemisphere, you’re never going to come away bored!

There’s no need to pay for this epic lightshow! Set your alarm early to embark on the ascent up Mt Coolum. Set aside approximately 1.5 hours for the return journey, which features designated trails and stunning views along the way. Once at the top of Mt Coolum, you’ll get to enjoy the cotton-candy sunrise over the Pacific Ocean and witness the sunlight spilling out across the landscape from Double Island Point to Caloundra. It doesn’t get more photo-friendly than this.
Float down Seary’s Creek
With its crisp, golden water and winding streams, Seary’s Creek is almost like our very own natural waterpark. Located in the Cooloola Recreation Area, Seary’s Creek is fast making a name for itself on the Sunshine Coast as a family-friendly hotspot for summertime fun. Make sure to bring some inflatables along to float down the stream, or dive beneath the surface where rainbow fish flit by.
