Hanging Rock Dive Site
Hanging Rock is a popular reef dive off Mooloolaba, at the southern end of the Sunshine Coast. Located on the large Outer Gneerings Reef, Hanging Rock is similar to other sites in the area, with a network of rocky ridges and gutters covered in corals. The main feature of this site is a large rocky overhang, which is decorated with tubastra corals, soft corals and sponges. Hanging Rock is a great place to find nudibranchs, with dozens of these colourful sea slugs seen on a typical dive. The site is also home to a good variety of reef fish, plus crayfish, crabs, shrimps and flatworms. This is also a good location to see moray eels, just look for the heads hanging out of the many ledges in the area. Hanging Rock is a dive site that any diver will enjoy, with a maximum depth of 19 metres. The site is suitable for beginners, open water and advanced divers.
